GRAYSON, Ky. — No 3’s, no chance.

The South Point Pointers rely on their outside shooting including form the 3-point line. But a bad shooting performance was costly as the Pointers lost 53-45 to the East Carter Raiders on Friday.

South Point made just 3 of 16 shots from behind the arc. In fact, only Brandon Barnes made a long-range shot.

“That’s our bread and butter. We have to make those shots. We had good looks, they just wouldn’t go down,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

Brandon Barnes scored 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the Pointers (7-8). Payne Meadows had 10 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Brandon Boggs added 7 points and 10 rebounds.

Quinn Huddle scored 14 points and Bradley Marsh 12 to lead the Raiders (8-10).

Barnes scored 7 points in the first quarter and South Point trailed just 13-12.

The Pointers rallied to take a 23-19 halftime lead, but they were outscored 19-10 in the third quarter and trailed 38-33.

“A bad third quarter did us in. It seems like the third quarter always does us in,” said coach Barnes. “We missed some easy shots and then they go down and convert. Our defense was better. Our offensive execution is still not where I want it to be.”

Brandon Barnes scored 6 more points in the fourth quarter but the Raiders held on for the win.

South Points hosts Chesapeake Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
