Katherine Ellis

June 7, 1941 — Jan. 21, 2013

 

Katherine Ellis, 71, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence. The Scioto County native was born June 7, 1941, the daughter of the late Wince and Essie Messer Howard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie V. Ellis.

Mrs. Ellis attended Portsmouth schools, was a member of the VFW and the Moose 701 Lodge.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Leslie Ellis Jr. and his wife Jamie of Ironton and Bill Ogg of Sciotoville; three daughters, Mary Lawless and her husband Scott, and Ann Fliehman and her husband Scott, all of Ironton, and Linda Christian and her husband Charles of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Shirley Dempsey of Sciotoville and Wendy Parker of Loveland; a brother, Jesse Howard of Wheelersburg; eight half brothers and sisters; a special friend, Lee Heighton of Ironton;10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Cemetery in McArthur. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Community Hospice for their care. Debra Johnson

June 13, 1954 — Jan. 20, 2013

 

Debra K. Johnson, 58, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Fountain Head Nursing Home in Franklin Furnace. The Ironton native was born June 13, 1954, a daughter of the late Ralph P. Johnson and Margaret (Whaley) Johnson of Ironton.

In addition to her mother, Debra is survived by two brothers, Paul (Phyllis) Johnson of Fleming Island, Fla., and Ken Johnson of Ironton; six nephews and nieces; and 10 great-nephews and nieces.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. There will be no public visitation.

Betty Holley

Betty Lou Holley, 82, of Proctorville, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Roger Mooney. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Daniel Hurn

May 26, 1928 — Jan. 18, 2013

 

Daniel Hurn, Jr. 84 of Steubenville, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Trinity West. He was born May 26, 1928 in Ironton. He is the son of the late Daniel, Sr. and Elizabeth Urich Hurn. Daniel was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William Hurn; and three sisters, Betty Jean Rist, Clara Selb and Barbara Ann Reed.

Daniel worked at Robertson Heating and Supply for 28 years, then at Industrial Supply for 15 years and retired from DiGregory’s Green House, Steubenville.

Surviving are his wife Mary A. Salomone Hurn, whom he married May 14, 1950; two daughters, Mary Beth (Dean) Haun of Weirton and Carol (Robert) Petchal of Wintersville; two sisters, Mary Frances (Jay) Stewart of South Point, and Georgia Mae Frasier of Ironton; five grandchildren, Amy, Paul Scott, Kristin, Robert and Kelli; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Alaina.

Paul Hamilton

Sept. 25, 1945-Jan. 22, 2013

 

Paul Hamilton, 67, of Ironton, died on Tuesday Jan. 22, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The Ironton native was born Sept. 25, 1945, the son of the late John and Edith Wilds Hamilton, a Vietnam veteran, and worked for Ironton Coke plant and Allied Signal.

Survivors include his wife Nancy M. (Newland) Hamilton of 44 years; one son and daughter-in-law John Paul and Angie Hamilton; one daughter and son-in-law Alice Melissa (Missy) and Timothy Reed; three grandchildren, Stephen, Sara, Samuel; one brother and sister-in-law Joe and Wilma Hamilton of Springfield; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and the late Roy Malone of Carlisle, Trellis Wilson of West Chester, Mae and Denny Morgan of Kitts Hill, and Debbie and Bill Cazier of Springhill Fla.

There will be no visitation. Graveside rites will be conducted on Thursday at 12 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, with military honors preformed by the VFW Post 8850 with John Sturgill officiating. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 

 

Helen Gwinn

Helen Stratton Gwinn, 85, of South Point, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at home. Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Chesapeake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Case and the Rev. William Stratton officiating. Following the service, there will be food and fellowship in the church fellowship hall. Michael Taylor

Michael E. Taylor, 51, of Ironton, died at his home Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.
