MANCHESTER — The Green Bobcats were able to withstand a second half storm by the Manchester Greyhounds by creating their own storm.

Brody Storms scored 7 points filling in for starter Clay Applegate as Green held off the Greyhounds 49-46 on Tuesday.

“Brody Stormes stepped in and played in place of Clay and hit some big shots and handled the ball,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton. “It tough to win on the road, especially at Manchester. We had a lot of people step up.”

Rob Applegate stepped up and scored 16 points as Green (7-12) won its third straight. Trent Marcum scored 13 points and Tyler Crace had 12.

Braxton Gaffin scored 18 points — 12 in the second half — to lead Manchester. Austin Hughes added 10 points.

Marcum had 7 points in the first quarter as Green to a 12-6 lead.

Rob Applegate scored 9 points in the second quarter as Green extended its lead to 30-19.

But Manchester whittled away a few points off the lead in the third quarter. They Greyhounds outscored the Bobcats 11-8 and trailed 38-30.

Gaffin scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as Manchester continued to rally, but the Bobcats converted 9 of 14 free throws in the final quarter including 4 of 4 shooting by Crace.

Green made just one field goal in the fourth quarter.

“We shot the ball really well in the first half. We had a good second quarter,” said Blanton. “We didn’t shoot the ball as well in the second half, but our defense made some big stops.”

Green hosts Southern Ohio Conference I leader Beaver Eastern on Friday.
