SOUTH POINT — A little “D” and a little “O” equals a big “W.”

The third-ranked Fairland Lady Dragons parlayed good defense and a balanced offense to beat the South Point Lady Pointers 55-31 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We played good defense again,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan. “The girls did a good job of understanding what South Point was trying to do.

“Terra (Stapleton) did a real good job controlling the lane. They had a hard time getting off any shots.”

Stapleton and Chandler Fulks scored 14 points each as the Lady Dragons remained unbeaten in 18 games. They are 9-0 in the OVC.

Kelsey Riley added 12 points and Taylor Perry scored 10 points for Fairland.

“Offensively we moved the ball well. We had good balance,” said Buchanan.

Brett Justice scored 7 points to lead the Lady Pointers (7-11, 4-6).

Fulks scored 7 points and Stapleton had 6 points as Fairland took a 17-10 first quarter lead.

Riley had 6 points in the second quarter and the defense held South Point to 7 points as the lead grew to 32-17 at the half.

Perry scored 6 of her points in the third quarter to match the Lady Pointers’ total and the Lady Dragon extended the lead to 46-23.

Fairland plays at Chesapeake Saturday and hosts Meigs on Monday.
