PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons must have really liked going 20-0 last season. They decided to do it again this season.

Fairland routed the Meigs Lady Marauders 70-31 on Monday to complete a 20-0 regular season and extended their regular season winning streak to 44.

“We knew it would be a challenge. The schedule was tougher and we knew teams would bring their best effort against us. The girls worked hard and they earned this,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Fairland’s other two seniors are Pieper Lewis and Mariah Chaffin.

Haley Woodall — one of four seniors — led the Lady Dragons with 15 points. Terra Stapleton scored 14 points and senior Kayla Swiger had 11 points.

Buchanan started the four seniors along with Stapleton, a junior.

“It was a perfect senior night. The seniors got to play and they did a great job,” said Buchanan.

“They scored 29 points in the first quarter. They really got after it. They’ve been a big part of what we’ve done. They’re leaving a legacy of being winners.”

Woodall scored 13 points in the first quarter and Stapleton scored 8 points as Fairland roared to a 29-89 first quarter lead.

The lady Dragons extended their lead to 44-20 at the half as Stapleton scored 6 more points in the second quarter.

Swiger got 5 of her points in the third quarter as the lead grew to an insurmountable 55-27.

Fairland outscored Meigs 15-4 in the final quarter.

Brittany Krautter scored 8 points to lead Meigs (4-18).

Fairland plays Chesapeake at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals at Jackson High School.
