Carl Willis

Carl R. Willis, 72, of Wayne, W.Va., left his earthly home on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Wayne Nursing & Rehab, Wayne. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Blankenship officiating. Burial followed at the Price-Mills Cemetery, East Lynn.

Carl was born on March 28, 1940, to Virginia A Walters Willis of South Point, and the late Paul Everett Willis. Carl was a graduate of Marshall University with a BBA degree, and worked as a management auditor for GAO for the Air Force Audit Agency and later was an employee of Walmart in Wayne. He was an Air Force veteran serving from 1961-1965.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Surviving is his mother, Virginia A Walters Willis of South Point; loving wife of 45 years, Audrey C. Mills Willis; son R. Scott Willis (Heather) of Centennial, Colo.; sister Wanda Hughes (Garfield) of South Point; two grandchildren, Bri and Randy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce Lyles

Joyce Lyles, 73, of Marion, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Marion General Hospital in Marion. The Grayson, Ky., native was born March 18, 1939, a daughter to late Alfred Leslie Shepherd and Angeline (Riffe) Shepherd. Joyce is also preceded in death by her late husband, John Lyles.

Joyce attended school in Blackfork and later served her family as a homemaker. She attended White Oaks Freewill Baptist Church in Marion.

Joyce is survived by seven children, Kathy (Frank) Carmon of Marion, Penny (Donald) Lewis of Genoa, Randy (Denise) Shepherd of Waterloo, James McGuire of Pedro, Terri (Don) Cox of Decatur, Paul McGuire of Ironton and Donald (Tammy) McGuire of Pedro; one brother, John Shepherd of Gallipolis; four sisters, Joann (Marvin) Pack of Firebrick, Ky., Freda (Robert) Bowles of Perrysburg, Elizabeth (Alfred) Laredo of Toledo, and Sylvia Flannery of South Shore, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by a son, Billy McGuire, Jr.; two sisters, Louise Gilliam and Linda Shepherd; and two brothers, Claude Shepherd and James Shepherd.

Claudia Holland

Claudia Royal Holland, 60, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Douglas C. Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.

Claudia was born April 27, 1952, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Mary Ferguson and Frank Royal, Sr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Royal, Jr., and one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Royal.

She was a dispatcher for 28 years at the Ironton Police Department. Claudia is survived by her husband, Roger L. Holland; two daughters, Kelli Royal of Ironton and Crystal Royal of Columbus; one sister, Jennifer Pankey of Ironton; two brothers, Norman (Claudia) Ferguson of San Diego, Calif., and Jeffrey Royal, Sr. of San Diego, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Willa Royal of Ironton; a brother-in-law, Larry Ford of South Point; one grandchild, Brennan Banks; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends and extended family that will love and miss her immensely.

Jack Nance

Jack R. Nance, 78, of South Point, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. He was the son of the late Willie and Nola Nance and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Nance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ferguson and Doris Bennett.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Calgon Carbon in 1999. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, John and his wife Marilyn of Olive Hill, Ky, Steve and his wife Sherry of Coal Grove, and Michael and his wife Jami of South Point; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Huff officiating and Roy Creger giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Terrie Johns

Terrie Renee Johns, 51, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at her residence. The Ironton native was born July 14, 1961, the daughter of Clifford Pete and Mary Lou Moore Russell of Ironton. She is also survived by her husband, Mark Edward Johns of Cincinnati.

Terrie was a 1979 graduate of Ironton High School, loved spending time with her grandchildren and shopping. She also enjoyed drawing and painting portraits. She was retired from the Lawrence County Job and Family Services and a member of the Springdale Nazarene Church.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Edward and Edith Russell; and her maternal grandparents, Olive and Bill Moore.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Matt Malone of Kitts Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Ryan and Kathy Dickess of Cincinnati; stepdaughter, Heather Hornung of Fairfield; step-son, Joshua Johns of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Braden, Brycen, Braxten, Colton, Dominic, Braylen, Poet, Bailey and Xavier; a sister, Amy Joao of Cincinnati; and a brother, Mike Russell of Wheelersburg.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery. Geraldine Pigman

Geraldine E. Pigman, 95, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at River’s Bend Health Center, South Point. Ira “Arie Joe” Farris, 76, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va.
