SUMMIT, Ky. — When you’re hot, you’re scorching.

The Boyd County Lions used some red-hot shooting to outscore the South Point Pointers 94-73 on Friday.

“Offensively we played well. We just could not stop them. They were on fire,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

The Lions (20-10) hit 12 3-point goals led by Grayson Griffith with 21 points including six 3-pointers. Austin Hunt and Brandon Taylor scored 18 points each and Todd Stacy had 13 points.

Brandon Barnes led all scorers with 27 points and he had 4 assists. Barnes was 5 of 7 from behind the arc.

Kurt Adams scored 18 points — 14 in the first half — including five 3-pointers for South Point (9-13). He also grabbed 7 rebounds.

The Lions came out gunning and outscored the Pointers 29-19. Payne Meadows scored 9 points for South Point but left the game after an injury. He did not return.

Brandon Barnes had 11 points in the second quarter to get the Pointers within 53-44 at the break.

Boyd County shot 70 percent from the field in the first half.

Barnes scored 10 more point in the third quarter but Boyd County outscored the Pointers 25-16 to take a 78-60 lead.

The game was called after a long delay with 2:01 left due to a severe ankle injury to Lions’ freshman Brock Damron.
