Chesy woman cited on drug charge

CHESAPEAKE — A 19-year-old Chesapeake woman was cited on a felony drug charge this morning in Scioto County.

Chelsey L. Barry, 19, has been charged with possession of heroin, a first-degree felony. Barry was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix on U.S. 23 in Lucasville at 12:34 a.m. when Ohio State Highway Patrol officers stopped her on a moving violation.

“Troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a search was conducted,” according to a OSHP release.

Barry allegedly told the troopers that she was carrying contraband and voluntarily gave the officers approximately 70 grams of what they believed was heroin, the release stated. The contraband has a street value of approximately $10,500.

Barry is to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on the charge.
