Thurman Fyffe

Thurman Edward (Shade) Fyffe, 67, of Chesapeake, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born March 26, 1945, the son of the late Thurman and Ethel Conley Fyffe.

Thurman was a graduate of Coal Grove High School and was a former oven operator for the Dayton Malleable Iron Company. He also worked for Acme Fab., Semet Solvay and Carlyle Tile Company and was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Dickess, Eunice Battle, Loretta Loudermilk and Hazel Hall; and one brother, Ray Fyffe.

He is survived by his wife Patricia K. Estep Fyffe of Chesapeake; three daughters, Tonya Poynter of Garrison, Ky., Jennifer Miller of Ironton, and Allison Tackett of Ashland, Ky.; one son, Robert Short Jr. of Chesapeake; sister, Joyce Bellville of Ironton; nine grandchildren, Bub, Margie, Breanna, Jacob, Haley, Chase, Nakayla, Zack and Jarred; and one great-grandchild, Julie

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday in Community Cemetery with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home. John Dallas Murray, 61, of Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House of Huntington. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, followed by a reception at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post No. 16.
