Held on $75,000 bonds

CHESAPEAKE — Four Lawrence County residents arrested last week for their alleged participation in a “shake-and-bake” meth lab will have preliminary hearings Friday in Lawrence County Municipal Court.

Nathan D. Boyd, 24, and Roberta L. Boyd, 43, both of 223 Township Road 1186, South Point, Tyler Adkins, 19, of 95 Township Road 1041 Chesapeake, and William Gore, 45, of 204 Thelma Ave., South Point, all had initial appearances in the county court Friday, with bond set for each at $75,000.

Each was charged with manufacture/cultivation of illegal drugs, a second-degree felony. Gore also had an active warrant for failure to appear on an unrelated case.

Nathan Boyd was appointed attorney Philip Heald to represent him; Roberta Boyd will be represented by attorney J.T. Holt; Adkins to be represented by attorney David Reid Dillon; and Gore to be represented by attorney Mike Davenport.

All four were arrested early Friday morning after the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous call at 6:45 p.m. Thursday of a strange odor coming from a residence at the Lawrence Commons Apartments.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, when the deputies arrived on scene at 223 Township Road 1186, they could smell what they described as a strange odor. They asked the occupants of the apartment if they could search the premises, and that request was granted.

The deputies found a 20-ounce soda bottle, rubber tube and allegedly the ingredients to make meth, according to the release. A deputy confirmed that meth was actively cooking inside the bottle.
