Thomas Spillman

Feb. 15, 1946-March 19, 2013

Thomas Martin Spillman, 67, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday March 19, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Feb. 15, 1946, the son of the late Woodrow and Margaret Davis Spillman. He is survived by his wife Diana Kelly Spillman.

Thomas attended Rock Hill schools and was a former mechanic for Jack Wolfe Chevrolet in Ironton. He enjoyed fishing and talking on his CB radio. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother; David Spillman and a sister; Ella Carol.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mylinda Malone of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Martina and Mike Shope of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Melissa Spillman of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Miranda Spillman of Ironton; brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Juanita Spillman of Lexington, Ky.; brother and sister-in-law;,Donald and Loretta Spillman of Ironton; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Emmagene Spillman of Gallipolis; brother and sister-in-law, John and Karen Spillman of South Point; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Phyllis Spillman of Ironton; sister, Mary Russell of Ironton; sister, Rose Akers of Wheelersburg; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Rick Picklesimer of Ironton; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Frank Stephenson of Ironton; sister and brother-in-law, Rhoda and Tom Lawson of Flatwoods, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Abrams of Wurtland, Ky., Marissa Malone, Jennifer Malone, Mark Martin, Jerry Goody III, Billy Scott Goody, Brandon Spillman, Jackie Spillman, Tommi Reigh Spillman, Aaron Spillman, Dakota Spillman and Michael Shope, all of Ironton; and two great-grandchildren; Natalie and Erin Abrams both of Wurtland, Ky.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Spillman family cemetery. Bertha Stewart

April 19, 1918-March 15, 2013

Bertha Dee Stewart, 94, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., formerly of Franklin Furnace, passed away on Friday March 15, 2013. Mrs. Stewart was born in Boyd County, Ky., on April 19, 1918 and was the daughter of the late John G. McCallum and Blanche M. McCallum. Mrs. Stewart attended school in Durbin, Ky. and married Wilbur Allen Stewart, oldest son of Oliver H. and Sadie Queen Stewart, in August 1941. Mrs. Stewart enjoyed 59 years of marriage and was preceded in death by her husband in February 2000.

Mrs. Stewart moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, in 2003 and was an active member of the community, participating in volunteer activities, gardening, and family get-togethers. Mrs. Stewart was a long-time member of the Haverhill Methodist Church and in Lee’s Summit she attended the First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Robert Scott, Ercell Van Horn, and Russell Stewart; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stewart, Mary VanHorn, and Ruby Crider. She is survived by her daughter, Willadee Wehmeyer and her husband, Edgar John Wehmeyer of Greenwood, Mo.; her grandson, Stewart D. Gillin and his wife Patricia Gillin of Topeka, Kan.; great-grandsons, James Stewart Gillin and Scott Allen Gillin of Topeka,; sister-in-law, Hazel Scott of Raceland, Ky.; sister-in-law Mabel Jeter and brother-in-law Harold Jeter of South Point; nephews, William R. Stewart and his wife Toni Stewart of Ashland, Ky.; Hal Jeter and his wife Teresa Jeter of Ashland, and Carole Ann Broughton and her husband Arthur W. Broughton of South Point.

Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Phillips Funeral Home and a graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton with Pastor Steve Harris officiating. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net

 

James Oney

James “Kevin” Oney, 45, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., with Minister Gaylord Cordle and Rev. Jimmy Morrison officiating. Visitation is 6 – 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard Hysell

Richard Lee Hysell, 59, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was the husband of Teri Ann White Hysell, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
