Lady Pointers roll to win over Chesy

SOUTH POINT — As Tony Perez would say, “See the ball, hit the ball.”

The South Point Lady Pointers were hitting what they were seeing as they blanked the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 12-0 in five innings on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“I am extremely proud of our first week of games. The entire lineup seems to be seeing the ball and hitting extremely well,” said South Point coach Tanner Heaberlin.

South Point (5-0, 3-0) had 13 hits to back the pitching of Kaitlyn Brown who gave up four hits and struck out six.

South Point went up 1-0 in the first on singles by Sylvia Griffith and Haley Rawlins and an error.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third on was walk to Bri Whaley, a single by Rawlins, a tripled by Griffith and Andi Kleinman’s sacrifice fly.

The Lady Pointers ended the game with an 8-run outburst in the fifth.

Whaley singled, Rawlins double and Griffith homered to start the rally. Kleinman double, Halie Powell and Hannah Carey singled and Brown tripled.

Bonnie Hileman ended the game with a two-run homer.

Rawlins was 3-3 with Griffith, Powell and Hileman all 2-3.
