SOUTH POINT — With apologies to UPS, what can Brown do for you?

Kaitlyn Brown, that is.

Brown struck out 13 batters and pitched a four-hit shutout as the South Point Lady Pointers beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 8-0 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Kaitlyn is dialed in right now and pitching as well as I have ever send her,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin.

“That coupled with us hitting the ball and playing solid defense has been the reason for our streak. We’re playing with confidence and we need it with several big games left this week.”

South Point (6-0, 4-0) got all the runs it needed with three in the second inning.

Andi Kleinman tripled and courtesy runner Emilee Powell scored on a wild pitch. Hailee Powell walked, Hannah Carey had a bunt single and a wild pitch scored another run. Bonnie Hileman drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.

A run scored in the third on a double by Bri Whaley and Kleinman’s base hit.

The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth when Carey reached on an error, Brown was hit by a pitch and Winkler and Haley Rawlins had RBI singles.

The final two runs scored in the fifth. Halie Power singled, Brown walked and Hileman and Winkler had run-scoring singles.

Rawlins was 3-4, Kleinman 2-3 and Winkler 2-4 to lead the Pointers’ offense.

Morgan Sites was 2-4 for Coal Grove.

The Lady Pointers play at Rock Hill on Wednesday in a battle for first place in the OVC. Both teams are unbeaten.
