PEDRO — Moving their defense around shook up the Rock Hill bats, too.

With starting catcher Brooke Eastham out with an injury, Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper shuffled her lineup.

The re-worked lineup produced 12 hits as the Redwomen rallied late to beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 9-5 on Friday.

“We moved our infield around but it worked out,” said Harper. “The girls stepped up, Sami pitched well and we hit the ball.”

Sami Nixon struck out 10 and walked one to get the win.

Rock Hill (8-3) was led offensively by Kenzi Martin who went 3-4 with a home run and a double. Lindy Simpson was 3-3 and Jenna Lane 2-4.

Ironton (1-5) collected 11 hits, led by Rebekkah Potter who was 2-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Andi Kratzenberg was 2-3 with a double, Ariel Whitt and Taylor Hannan each went 2-3 and Karlee McMackin was 2-4.

Rock Hill took a 3-0 lead in the second. Martin and Kaelynn Ellis singled for a run. After a wild pitch Sami Dillon singled in a run. Riann Keating and Lane followed with hits for a run.

Ironton got a run in the third. Taylor Hannan and Taylor Monk singled and Potter reached on an error as Hannan scored.

The Lady Tigers took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the top of the fourth.

Monk singled, stole second and Potter had an RBI single. Kratzenberg doubled home Potter and McMackin singled home the third run.

But Rock Hill answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-4.

Nix singled, Kenzi Harrah had a sacrifice and Martin an RBI double. Ellis singled and Simpson had a run-scoring double. The final run scored on a wild pitch.

The Redwomen got some insurance runs in the sixth when Nixon walked, Hanshaw reached on a fieler’s choice and Martin hit a three-run homer.

Potter drilled a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring.
