Lady Vikings enjoy 4-for-4 weekend

AID — Going 4-for-4 is the kind of day a hitter dreams about having. Going 4-for-4 in the two-day Valley of Thunder was a dream come true for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings busy weekend brought four wins in four tries as they beat Alexander 7-3, Wellston 1-0, Smithville 10-9 and Southern 7-6.

“The kids stepped up and played well this weekend. Everyone on the team contributed. It was a great team effort,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“When you cut down on your mistakes and errors, you can win. We’ve working hard and getting better. They showed a lot of heart in that last game.”

Alexander 7-3: Catlin Carpenter had a two-run double in the third and Stephanie Brown had a two-run double in the fourth as the Lady Vikings enjoyed a pair of three-run rallies.

Wellston 1-0: The Lady Vikings got the game’s only run with one out in the fourth inning Kaitlyn Payne singled, stole second and Carpenter doubled with two outs.

Smithville 10-9: Autumn Keathley had a two-run double in the first inning. Brown hit a two-run homer, Payne an RBI double in a four-run second. Keathley tripled and scored on a error in the fourth while Payne and Tiara Hatfield had RBI base hits in the sixth.

Southern 7-6: The Lady Vikings rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the exciting win.

Payne singled to start the winning rally. Hatfield walked and they pulled off a double steal. With two out, Hannah Maynard singled to left field to drive in both runners.

Payne and Brown shared the pitching duties with each recording two wins.
