CHESAPEAKE — One definition for noble is “impressive in quality or appearance.”
Melanie Noble lived up to that definition as she pitched a three-hitter to lead the Chesapeake Lady Panthers to an 8-0 shutout of the Tolsia Lady Rebels on Friday.
Noble struck out six and did not walk a batter to get the win.
“Noble pitched a nice game. The big key was walks. She didn’t put anyone on. She made them hit the ball and we played good defense,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
After a scoreless first inning, Chesapeake’s offense ignited with a six-run second.
Ali Ransbottom reached on an error, Noble had an RBI double and Sydnee Hall tripled in a run.
Carrie Brock singled in a run, Laura Rice singled and Kelsey Huff had a two-run single. Macy Allen capped the rally with a run-scoring single.
Two more runs scored in the fourth. Huff and Allen singled and an outfield error scored a run. Ransbottom grounded out as the final run scored.
Chesapeake had 11 hits with Hall going 2-2, Huff and Noble 2-3 and Allen 2-4.
