It took a one-two punch from the one-two hitters.

Taylor Hannan and Saige Fields combined to drive in all five runs as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Green Lady Bobcats 5-2 on Tuesday.

Fields was 3-4 with three RBIs and Hannan 1-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

“Hannan and Fields are hitting the ball well right now. I am pleased with their effort and patience at the plate,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“We’re hoping the middle of the lineup will be more consistent. We have some real good hitters that haven’t hit their stride yet, but it’s coming.”

Green took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning a walk to Jenna Crawford, Erin Imes’ double and an RBI single by Emma Salisbury.

Ironton (3-5) answered with three runs in the second to take the lead for good.

Taylor Monk singled and Meghan Taylor reached on an error. Hannan tripled both runners home and then she scored on a hit by Saige Fields.

Green got within 3-2 in the third when Micah Lewis walked, moved up on a fly out and score on a hit by Imes.

But Ironton came back with two insurance runs in the fourth.

Ariel Whitt had a two-out single and went to third on a pair of wild pitches. Hannan walked and stole second. Saige Fields then singled in both runners.

Erin Wetzel got the win with a five-hitter. She struck out five and walked two.

Ironton did not have an error and coach Fields noted a key double play from Laken White to Andi Kratzenberg to Karlee McMackin.

“Wetzel had another good night on the mound. She is hitting her spots well and field her position,” said coach Fields. “It was a good defensive outing tonight. We had a nice double play to end an inning. That was a big play.”

Imes was 2-3 with a double and an RBI for Green.

Ironton hosts Ashland on Thursday.
