Lady Vikings outscore East

AID — The only days off a team should take are the scheduled ones.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings almost took the wrong day off as they got past the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 13-7 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We didn’t come ready to play and East played well. They hit the ball. We had to work hard for this one,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (10-5, 5-3) took a 2-0 in the first. Autumn Keathley walked, Kaitlyn Payne reached on an error, Tiara Hatfield hit into a fielder’s choice and Catlin Carpenter had a two-run single.

East went up 4-2 but the Lady Vikings tied the game in the third.

Keathley singled, Payne walk and they moved up on a wild pitch. Hatfield hit a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch scored Payne.

The Lady Vikings erupted for six runs in the fourth.

Hannah Maynard was safe on an error, Breanna Morris walked and they moved up on a wild pitch. Amber Bryant walked and Stephanie Brown doubled in two runs.

An error scored Bryant, Keathley stole second and Payne had a two-run single. Payne stole second, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a ground out.

The final three runs scored in the sixth.

Payne was safe on an error, Hatfield hit into a fielder’s choice, Carpenter singled, Chianne Hively hit into a fielder’s choice for a run. Maynard reached on an error, Bryant singled in a run and a throwing error scored the final run.

Carpenter went 2-4 and Brown 2-5.
