Lady Panthers roll past Irish; SV girls fall

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers met the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Irish in a softball game Thursday and a football game broke out.

The Lady Panthers pounded out 15 hits including five doubles en route to a 22-0 win in five innings.

Laura Rice, Kelsey Huff and Breanna Skeens all went 2-3. Macy Allen and Ali Ransbottom were 2-2 and Melanie Noble 2-4.

Anna Mayo, Jordan Porter, Rice, Huff and Allen all had doubles.

Ransbottom had a two-run single as Chesapeake took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Huff had a two-run double and Noble a two-run single in a five-run second to make it 7-0.

The Lady Panthers exploded for 13 runs in the third inning highlighted by Allen’s two-run double and two-run singles by Huff and Skeens.

Noble got the win with a three-hitter. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

AID — The Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans took a big step toward winning the Southern Ohio Conference with a 9-2 win over the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings on Thursday.

“They’ve got a good pitcher and a good team. We just got beat. We have no excuses,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Odie Estep.

The Lady Vikings (10-6, 5-4) got their two runs in the fourth ining when Autumn Keathley reached on an error, Kaitlyn Payne tripled and Tiara Hatfield grounded out for an RBI.

Stephanie Brown was 2-3 for the Lady Vikings who had just four hits.
