Pointers rally past Flyers 9-5

Better late than never.

The South Point Pointers scored four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh as they rallied past the St. Joseph Flyers 9-5 on Thursday.

The Flyers (5-4) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Joseph Payton walked and Justin Mahlmeister and Cole Willis singled for a run. A throwing error scored the second run and the final run came home on a passed ball.

South Point (8-3) got within 3-2 in the top of third on doubles by Jesse Lein, Alex Whitt and Brandon Boggs.

St. Joseph made it 4-2in the bottom of the inning when Hunter Pemberton was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored on a passed ball.

East team got a run in the fifth.

The Pointers scored on doubled by Boggs and Josh Browning. Pemberton manufactured the Flyers run when he was hit by a pitch for the second time, stole second and scored on two passed balls.

The Pointers took the lead with four runs in the sixth.

Trey Kearns singled, Luke Kelley walked and Brandon Layne reached on an error for a run. Whitt doubled home two runs for the lead and Boggs was safe on an error for the final run.

The Pointers added two insurance runs in the seventh. Austin Majher reached on an error, Kearns singled and Patrick Jones hit a sacrifice fly. Warren Price singled in the final run.

South Point had 13 hits with Whitt going 2-5 with a double and three runs batted in. Boggs was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Lein was 2-5, Majher 2-4 and Kearns 3-4.

The Flyers had just three hits.
