AID — The Symmes Valley Vikings needed a big win. Mitch Corn helped deliver that win.

Corn pitched a two-hitter as Symmes Valley picked up a key Southern Ohio Conference win as the Vikings blanked the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 13-0 in five innings on Thursday.

Corn struck out six and walked two as he stymied the Titans.

“We hit the ball pretty well, but the big key for us was Mitch Corn. He threw the ball well and shut them down and made it easy for our offense,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The win makes the Vikings 12-3 overall and 9-0 in the SOC.

The Vikings parlayed nine hits and nine walks to fuel their offense. D.J. Miller was 2-2, Jacob Easthom 2-3 and Seth Jarrell 2-4.

The Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Miller singled, Herrell walked, Jarrell had a two-run single and Easthom an RBI single.

The lead went to 9-0 in the second inning.

Miller walked, stole second and scored on Jarrell’s hit. Jarrell stole second and third and Tanner Mays hit a sacrifice fly.

Easthom and Dylan Pelletier walked and Dylan McFann belted a three-run double. Lane Wilson and Corn followed with RBI singles.

The final four runs scored in the fourth.

Wilson walked, Corn reached on an error and Miller and Herrell walked to force in a run. A ground out scored a run and Easthom had a two-run single.
