The bats took awhile to wake up, but when they did, they wouldn’t go back to sleep.

Ironton had just four hits in the first game, but banged out 14 in the second game as the Lady Fighting Tigers split a doubleheader with the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians on Saturday.

Ironton lost the first game 11-2 only to rebound with a 13-6 in the nightcap.

Rebekkah Potter accounted for Ironton’s offense in the first game with a two-run home run in the fourth inning that cut the Valley lead to 6-2.

But the Lady Indians answered with three in the fifth and added two more in the seventh.

Valley (12-4) was led by Bethany Conley who went 2-3 with a home run. Brooke Cooper was 2-4 with a double and Amber Altman 2-2.

In the second game, Ironton (4-7) erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning en route to the win.

Karlee McMackin went 3-4 with a double and Taylor Monk was 3-4 to pace Ironton’s attack. Potter was 2-5 with a double and Fields also went 2-5.

Potter got the win in relief.

Ironton visits Greenup County on Monday and hosts Rock Hill on Thursday.
