William Lewis

William Harold “Stoop” Lewis, 86, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. The Wurtland, Ky., native was born Sept. 8, 1926, the son of the late Estill and Elizabeth Waggoner Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nora Gore Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was a professional gambler, a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Marshall; and an infant brother, Lawrence Lewis.

He is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline Kirby of Franklin Furnace, Lisa (Keith Winsor) Lewis of Greenup, Ky. and Linda Lewis of Ashland, Ky.; four grandchildren, Kara McCoy of Franklin Furnace, Alycia Lewis of Ashland, Ky., Savannah Campbell and Morgann Lake, both of Greenup; three great grandchildren, John Kevin McCoy and Maya McCoy both of Franklin Furnace, and Tyler Lewis Salyer of Ashland, Ky.; and two sisters, Myrtle Rymer of Westwood, Ky. and Jewell (Frank) Brown of Cincinnati.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mamre Cemetery with graveside military rites by the VFW Post 8850 with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Donna J. Knight

Donna J. Knight, 61, of Lexington, Ky., passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Palliative Care Center, located at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The Portsmouth native was born June 19, 1951, a daughter of William and Ada Schaffer of Ironton. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert C. Knight, who passed away April 4, 2006.

Mrs. Knight was a 1969 graduate of Ironton High School. She is survived by a son, Seth (Amy) Knight of Lexington; a sister, Sue (Jeff) Vanderhoof of Ironton; a grandson, Maddux Del Knight; a niece, Ali (Judson) Burns of Columbia, S.C.; a nephew, Andrew (Tyler) Fortman of Norfolk, Va.; and a host of special friends.

Services were held at noon Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Crestwood Christian Church in Lexington. Burial immediately followed at Camp Nelson National Veterans Cemetery in Nicholasville, Ky. Donations may be made in Donna’s honor to Palliative Care Center of the Bluegrass, 2407 Members Way, Lexington, KY 40504.

 

 

Philip Cook

Philip H. Cook, 92, of Huntington, W.Va., died Friday, April 26, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was the husband of Peggy L. Cook, who survives.

Geneva Bryant

Geneva Bryant, 66, of Scottown, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at her home.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Carl Black. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

 

Marion Stevens

Marion Robert Stevens, 58, of Scioto County, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.

 

Teresa Moore

Teresa E. Moore, 51, of Ashland, Ky., passed away at Community Hospice on April 26, 2013. She was born on April 6, 1962, to the late Billy Joe Moore and Gladys Castle Prosser of Ashland. Teresa was a 1980 graduate of Marshall University and was a reporter and newsroom editor for The Ironton Tribune newspaper.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Erin P. Moore of Ashland, Ky.; brothers, Randy Moore, Scott A. (Brenda) Moore of Worthington, Ky., and Christopher Moore of Ashland, Ky.; stepbrothers, Charles (Mary) of Ironton, and Dan (Rita) Prosser of North Carolina; sister, Marsha K. (John) Scales of Burlington, Ky.; stepsisters, Paula (Amos Jr.) Dixon of Coal Grove and Mary Lou Wallin of Ashland, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ashland, Ky.

Mary Smith

Mary Mae Smith, beloved wife of the late James E. Smith, passed away on April 20, 2013, at the age of 95. Mary was born July 8, 1917 and was raised in Ironton. She is the daughter of the late James L. and Lillie C. Smith. Mary is the mother of children: Dale (Alesea) Smith, Ironton, Mollie Martin, Fairfield, Nelda (Charlie) Robinson, Monroe, and the late Robert Smith. She is also the grandmother of John (Amy) Bowles, William Webb, Anthony Martin, Jamie Martin, Christon Smith and Richard Smith. Mary also has nine great-grandchildren. Funeral was held April 23, 2013, at Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester. Interment: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason.

 

 

Grace Frazer

Grace Frazer, 86, of Ironton, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at her residence. The Ironton native was born Aug. 30, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Abrams Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Hubert W. Frazer.

Mrs. Frazer attended Hanging Rock schools and was a former housekeeper for Lawrence County General Hospital for 13 years. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Evelyn Blankenship, Ethel Schilling, Roberta Richendollar, Edith Clutters and Dorothy Blankenship; and two brothers, James Blankenship and Charles Blankenship.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Dutey of Ironton and Lucille Byrd of Scioto County and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
