SOUTH POINT — The Coal Grove Hornets bounced back and bounced their way to another win.

Coming off a 14-4 loss on Tuesday, the Hornets used the five-hit pitching of Jonathan Joseph to beat the South Point Pointers 4-1 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“After playing so bad (Tuesday), the kids came out and played real well,” said Hornets’ coach Dean Mader. “Joseph threw well. He kept them off-balance the whole game.

“South Point is as good as a hitting team as there is in the league.”

Joseph struck out six and walked only one to get the win.

The Hornets (6-9, 3-7) scored all the runs they needed with three in the second inning.

Conor Markins walked and Travis Carey and Joseph singled for a run. Isaiah Gunther walked and Mason Nance had a two-run single.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third when Cody Pennington, Markins and Carey all singled to load the bases and Gunther walked to force in a run.

South Point got its run in the fifth on a triple by Trey Kearns and a passed ball.

Markins was 2-3 and Pennington and Carey 2-4 to lead the Hornets.

Brandon Boggs and Austin Majher were 2-3 for the Pointers.
