Kratzenberg helps Lady Tigers winPublished 3:30am Thursday, May 2, 2013
PROCTORVILLE — Someone needs to explain senior night to Andi Kratzenberg.
It was senior night for the Fairland Lady Dragons, but Ironton senior Andi Kratzenberg did most of the celebrating as she had two doubles and drove in two runs and the Lady Fighting Tigers got a 3-1 win.
Erin Wetzel got the win as she allowed seven hits, struck out four, walked two and hit two batters. Chandler Fulks took the loss as she gave up six hits, struck out 12 and walked three.
“Chandler pitched good enough to win, we just didn’t hit the ball,” said Fairland coach Joe Auxier.
Ironton took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Saige Fields got a two-out single and Kratzenberg doubled.
Fairland (16-7) tied the game in the fourth.
Chloe Stanley singled, Ellen Hinshaw was hit by a pitch, Jaimie Phillips singled to load the bases and Miranda Haynes was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Wetzel retired the next two batters on a pop up to Laken White at third base and a ground out to Kratzenberg at second.
Ironton scored the winning runs with two outs in the seventh.
Kylie Barcus walked and stole second to start the inning. The next two batters were retired and the third hitter struck out but the ball was dropped and the throw to first base to complete the strike out went into right field allowing Barcus to score.
Kratzenberg — who went 2-4 at the plate — then doubled in an insurance run.
Wetzel retired all three batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
Fulks was 3-4 and Stanley 2-3 to lead Fairland.
