PIKETON — Sami Nixon figured the Rock Hill Redwomen had worked too hard to let this one get away.

Leading by one run, Nixon was facing a bases loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nixon took matters into her own hands as she struck out two straight batters to end the game and give the Redwomen a 7-6 win over the Piketon Lady Red Streaks on Thursday.

“Sami made some big pitches and we made some big plays. It was a good win,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper.

Nixon struck out five and walked one to get the win for Rock Hill (13-7).

Sami Dillon went 3-4 with a double to lead a nine-hit attack. Brooke Hanshaw was 2-3 and Emmalee Ellis was 2-4.

Piketon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Rock Hill got a run in the top of the second on a double by Lindy Simpson and an RBI single by Dillon.

The Lady Red Streaks scored two more in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-1, but Nixon held them scoreless until the seventh.

Rock Hill tied the game with a four-run fourth inning.

Kaelynn Ellis walked, Simpson reached on an error and Emmalee Ellis got an infield hit to load the bases.

Brooke Eastham reach on an error as a run scored, Jenna Lane hit into a fielder’s choice and a run scored when the catcher dropped the throw home, Hanshaw singled for a run and Kenzi Martin walked to force in a run.

Martin singled and stole second to start the winning rally in the seventh.

Kaelynn Ellis put down a sacrifice bunt and Emmalee Ellis singled for the go-ahead run.

Dillon got an infield hit and a throwing error on the play allowed what proved to be the winning run to score.

Piketon then scored a run in the bottom of the inning only to have Nixon choke off the rally.

Rock Hill plays at Fairland on Monday and hosts Lucasville Valley on Tuesday.
