Sue Birchfield

Jan. 28, 1925 — May 2, 2013

Sue L. Birchfield, 88, of Ironton, passed away May 2, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., after a brief illness with her family at her side.

She was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Prestonsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late Alene Tolbert France and the late James W. Tolbert. She cleaned homes and was of the Protestant faith, attending the Christ Temple Church in Ashland.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Birchfield; three sons, Robert, William and Randy Birchfield; a daughter, Alene Battise; two brothers and two sisters.

She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, James (Rosemary) Birchfield of Cincinnati and Hugh “Puddy” (Tara) Birchfield of New Jersey; three daughters, Sonya (James) Taylor, Mary Robinson and Jackie Birchfield; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, in the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Ky., with Pastors Elsie Thomas and Richard Carter officiating. The funeral procession will leave Brown Funeral Chapel at noon on Monday.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday at the chapel. Friends and family may share memories or condolences with the Facebook page for the Brown Funeral Chapel.

James Murphy

Mary 25, 1935 — April 29, 2013

James Franklin “Jim” Murphy, 77, of Ironton, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at Jo-Lin Health Care Center, Ironton. He was born May 25, 1935, in Portsmouth, son of the late Floyd Murphy and Rachael Massie Murphy.

Jim was a 1953 graduate of Ironton High School and attended The Ohio State University prior to serving two honorable years in the United States Army. He retired from Ashland Oil. He was a member of the Ironton Elks for 49 years and was also a member of the American Legion, the Ironton Moose and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Jim was an avid lifelong fan of the Ironton Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He is survived by his wife Thelma Chafin Murphy; three daughters, Jana Murphy, Alicia Murphy and Jamie Murphy, all of Columbus; along with their mother, Mary Sexton Murphy; three brothers, John (Gloria) Murphy, Donald (Nancy) Murphy and Robert (Paige) Murphy; one sister, Janice (Don) Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Watts

Elizabeth Ann Watts, 59, of South Point, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Jo-Lin Health Care Center, Ironton. There will be a private family burial. Arrangements were by Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

Chauncey Neal Sr.

Chauncey M. Neal Sr., 80, of South Point, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. A private graveside service and burial was held at Woodland Cemetery. Marie Henry

Marie Henry, 90, of Ironton, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. Graveside funeral rites will be conducted at Monday at 11 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed on the Brown Funeral Chapel Facebook page.

 

Marion Stevens

Marion “Caveman” Robert Stevens, 58, of Franklin Furnace, died April 25, 2013, at his home. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Haverhill Cemetery in Haverhill. The funeral procession will leave Brown Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m., with graveside services at 3 p.m. Those wishing to provide donations for the funeral can contact the funeral chapel.

 

Johnny Callicoat

Johnny Roger Callicoat, 71, of Apple Grove, W.Va., died Friday, May 3, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will take place at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Scottown. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home.
