There are no excuses for not getting involved and helping lend a hand when the United States Postal Service conducts its Stamp Out Hunger initiative, the nation’s largest single-day food drive, this weekend.

In 2012, Americans donated more than 70 million pounds of food, which marked the ninth consecutive year that at least 70 million pounds were collected.

All citizens have to do is place bagged up canned goods and nonperishable items by their mailboxes and the letter carriers will do the rest.

This is perhaps the easiest way you will ever have to give back and help area food banks feed those in need.

In many cases simply cleaning out your pantry can go a long way. Perfectly good items sitting on a shelf or in the back of a cabinet could make a huge difference for a local family struggling to put food on the table.

The National Association of Letter Carriers are hitting the streets to do their part. Now we must do ours.
