SOUTH POINT — It’s called teamwork.

Brandon Boggs and Alex Whitt combined on a five-hitter as the South Point offense made the most of seven hits as the Pointers’ picked up a 9-5 senior night win over the Fairland Dragons on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Boggs pitched two perfect innings and Whitt went the final five innings for the win. They teamed up to retire the first 12 batters.

Whitt struck out 11, walked two and gave up five hits and five runs. Boggs fanned three and did not walk a batter.

South Point (14-7) broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning.

Austin Majher walked, Jesse Lien singled Whitt walked to load the bases and Chris Woodard doubled to clear the bases.

Fairland got within 3-2 in the top of the fifth.

Kyle Raines reached on an error, Dylan Murphy walked and Adam Taylor and Luke Phillips had RBI singles.

The Pointers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-2 and put the game away with six runs in the sixth.

Larry Brandon was safe on an error, Majher and Lien walked and Boggs doubled home a pair.

Whitt and Luke Kelley walked to force in a run. Patrick Jones singled in a run and Brandon was safe on an error as a run scored.

Fairland managed three runs in the seventh inning.

Tyler Campbell walked, Collin Damron and Hayden James singled for a run and Kyle Sowards doubled home two more runs.

Woodard was 2-4 with three RBIs, Lien 2-3 and Boggs 2-4.

Fairland plays at Jackson on Thursday in the Division II sectional finals. South Point visits Portsmouth West at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Division III sectional tournament.
