CROOKSVILLE — It was a good day all around for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings played well in all three facets of the game as they beat the Crooksville Lady Ceramics 12-6 on Saturday to win the Division IV sectional tournament.

“Stephanie Brown pitched well, we played good defense behind her and we hit the ball all over the field,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Brown gave up eight hits, struck out one and walked three in going the distance. She also went 3-4 at the plate with a double.

Tiara Hatfield was 4-5 and Kaitlyn Payne was 2-4 with a home run and a double as the Lady Vikings banged out 13 hits. Chianne Hively was 2-4.

Symmes Valley (12-13) will play Whiteoak at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Minford in the district semifinals.

The Lady Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Catlin Carpenter reached on an error, Amber Bryant walked and Brown singled.

Crooksville rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning but the Lady Vikings scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good.

Hively and Breanna Morris singled, Bryant put down a sacrifice bunt and Hively scored on a passed ball.

Autumn Keathley and Brown walked, Payne hit a sacrifice fly and two more runs scored on wild pitches.

The lead went to 8-3 in the fifth inning.

Hively singled, Bryant walked and a throwing error allowed a run to score. Brown doubled home Bryant and two more errors scored the third run.

The Lady Vikings got three more runs in the sixth.

Payne walked, Hatfield singled and Hively reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Morris singled home two runs and a passed ball and wild pitch sent home the final run.

The Ceramics scored three runs in the bottom of the inning but Payne drilled a solo home run to centerfield in the seventh to cap the scoring.
