Community service program makes difference

Published 9:22 am Thursday, May 23, 2013

I am writing to thank Judge Collins, his Community Service Program and J. D. McDaniel for taking on the cleaning and restoration of the W. D. Kelly Cemetery, located just west of the State Route 141 exit on U.S. 52.

The cemetery is visible from U.S. 52, and it was beginning to appear that the residents of Ironton and surrounding area had forgotten the people buried there.

With this initiative, trees and brush are being removed and the cemetery is beginning to look like an inviting place for relatives and friends to visit and pay respect to those who have passed before them.

With Memorial Day fast approaching, visitors to the cemetery will be able to come and go without fear of getting tangled in brush and briars.

Thank you.

Designated drivers help you celebrate responsibly

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and this much-anticipated holiday is right around the corner.

It’s a fun time when families and friends gather to celebrate with backyard barbecues, boating on the river, and other outdoor activities. It’s also an opportunity for all of us to help keep our community safe.

As fellow citizens, Triple Crown Beverage Croup, Spriggs Distributing Company, and our employees are renewing our pledge to be or use a designated driver over Memorial Day weekend and any time alcohol is part of our plans.

Throughout the Tri-State, these are our roads and we have a shared responsibility to keep them safe.

We want to remind everyone however you get home this Memorial Day weekend, please designate a driver.

Have a safe and joyous Memorial Day.
