Norval Allen

Norval (Sonny) Edward Allen, 78, of Jackson, passed away on Aug. 22, 2013. He was born Jan. 25, 1935, to the late Oakley and Elizabeth Allen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Kathy Allen; his three sons, Larry and Amie (Townsend) Allen, Sonny Jr. and Gloria Allen, all of Jackson, and Eddie Allen of Gallipolis; his four daughters, Barbara (Tim) Doles, Sherry (Pete) Corbin, all of Coalton, Shirley, of Jackson, and Elizabeth, of Jackson; one sister, Georgianna Burton, of Jackson; and one brother, William (Bill) Allen, of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by parents, Oakley and Elizabeth Allen; two daughters, Diane Dailey and Jenny Jackson; five sisters, Alice Viars, Mary Mahan, Alma Gee, Christine Allen and Nellie Allen; and four brothers, James Allen, Charles Allen, Harold Allen and Larry Allen.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis-Gillum funeral home in Oak Hill. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today with Pastor Burton Neace officiating. Burial will follow in Horeb Cemetery in Oak Hill. Online Condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillumfuneralhomes.com.

 

 

Braylon and Braydon Friend-Sutphin

 

Braylon Lee Friend-Sutphin and Braydon Shaston Friend-Sutphin, infants, passed away Wednesday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ashland natives were born Aug. 21, 2013, the sons of Mary Friend, of Ironton, and William Sutphin, of Ironton.

Braylon and Braydon are preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Mary and Douglas Martin.

In addition to their parents, they are survived by maternal grandmother Virginia Martin Friend, of Ironton; maternal grandfather and his fiancé Darrell Gene Friend and Jonda Lee Kennedy, of Ironton; paternal grandmother Germaine Taylor, of Ironton; maternal great-grandparents Cathy and James Friend, of Pedro; paternal great-grandmother Brenda Morris, of Ironton; aunt Kendra Friend, of Pedro; two uncles, Zachary Martin and Alex Sutphin, both of Ironton, two cousins, Kaitlyn Friend and Hayden Schob, both of Pedro.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Vernon Furnace Cemetery, with Pastor James Curtis Murnahan officiating.

Emma Pine

Emma Pearl Pine, 90, of Proctorville, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at home. She was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Jasper and Ada Workman Rigney. She was the wife of the late Herman Pine.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Fleta Miles, Blanche Pinkerman and Helen Bradley; three brothers, Richard Rigney, Charles Rigney and George Rigney.

Pearl is survive by one brother and sister-in-law, Jackie “Jiggs” and Dorothy Rigney, of Proctorville; two sons, Terry Pine and Danny and Henrietta Pine, all of Proctorville; two grandchildren, Danny Alan Pine of Crown City, and Kelly Blake, of Chesapeake; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Allisha and Emma Blake, all of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Duane Smith. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

 

Jack Hanshaw

Jack Hanshaw, 48, of Franklin Furnace, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Community Hospice, Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton.

 

 

Roy Brown

Roy Junior Brown, 85, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 31, 1927, a son of the late Robert Brown and Leona Mae Anson Pancake.

Roy attended LaGrange Schools and retired in 1982 as a Laborer for the Dayton Malleable Company after 31 years. He enjoyed being outside gardening, country car rides, visiting friends and enjoyed spring and summer seasons and being with his family. He loved spending time also with his dog Max and he loved all animals.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Jean Allen Brown, whom he married Sept. 26, 1964; a son, David Brown; a sister, Evelyn Kinstler; two brothers, Leonard Brown and Robert Dutey; and a son-in-law, James Rodney Myers.

He is survived by son, Gary Michael Brown of Kitts Hill; daughter, Janet Sue Lockwood of Ironton; daughter, Jeri Riggle of Willow Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Gary Hensley of Ashland, Ky.; granddaughter, Christina and Todd Shafer of Willow Wood, who cared for him during his illness; special nephew and his wife, Darrell and Patty Kinstler of Ironton; sister-in-law, Wanda Early of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Ralph Roach

Ralph Lee “Windy” Roach, 79, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus.

The Ironton native was born Aug. 5, 1934, a son of the late Ralph Roach Sr. and Lucille Frances Roach.

Ralph was a 1953 graduate of Ironton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired Millwright for the Malleable Amcast Company after 39 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 8850.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Emma Mayne Roach; cousins, Nancy and Mike McKee, of Ironton, cousins Rosie and Bill Britt, of Chesapeake.

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday in Ironton, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Christine Hunt

Christine Hunt, 94, of Huntington, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at home. Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville is in charge of the arrangements, which are incomplete.

 

 

Betty Walters

Betty Mae Walters, 77, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
