FRANKLIN FURNACE — The special teams made this a special win.

Levi Mollett and Kyle Frazier each returned a kickoff for a touchdown as the Green Bobcats outscored the Sciotoville East Tartans 41-38 on Friday in a non-league game.

Green (2-1) had more than 200 yards in kickoff returns for the game.

“We played as well as any kickoff team I’ve ever had,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “The one Frazier ran back was a real momentum changer because they had just taken the lead. We blocked them well.”

East (0-3) took a 7-0 lead on a 19-yard run by Jordan Bowen, but Mollett answered with a 78-yard kickoff return to tie the game.

The Tartans scored on a 5-yard run by Michael Stiltner and a 66-yard gallop by Bowen to lead 22-7 at the end of the quarter.

Chris Applegate and Kyle Frazier teamed up on a 28-yard scoring pass as Green got within 22-13. Akia Brown had a 32-yard scoring run and East was up 30-13.

But the Bobcats got a 56-yard touchdown run by Mollett and then ended the half with a 13-play, 78-yard drive capped by Applegate’s 1-yard run with just 11 seconds on the clock and it was 30-27 at the break.

Mollett’s 45-yard touchdown scamper just before the end of the third quarter put Green up 34-30.

Bowen ran 7 yards for a touchdown with 8:17 left and Brown’s conversion run put East back on top at 38-34.

But 15 seconds later, Frazier ran back the kickoff 70 and Green led for good.

East got to the 9-yard line with time running out and gained 3 yards. But Mark Allen made two stops for a loss and Kanyon Bruton intercepted a pass at the goal line to preserve the win.

Green had 219 yards on the ground and Clay Applegate was 4 of 11 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown. He also ran six times for 20 yards.

The Bobcats — who had 302 total yards — were led by Mollett with 156 yards on 22 carries and two scores. Allen had 40 yards on eight carries.

Besides Frazier’s TD catch, Allen caught a pass for 22 yards, Andy Chavarria had one receptions for 18 yards and Trent Marcum one for 15.
