Pointers win to take Lawrence County Cup

SOUTH POINT — One good half was good enough.

The South Point Pointers built a 2-0 first half lead and went on to beat the St. Joseph Flyers 2-1 Tuesday in a boys’ soccer game.

With the win, the Pointers (11-1-2) finished 4-0 to win their second straight Lawrence County Cup.

Jordan Overstreet scored an unassisted goal at the 23-minute mark that put the Pointers up 1-0.

Ryan Khounlavong scored four minutes later with an assist from Alex White as the lead went to 2-0.

The Flyers (3-8-3) got on the scoreboard when Joseph Payton scored an unassisted goal at the 78-minute mark.

The Pointers had 15 shots on goal to five for the Flyers.

South Point goalie Brady Rickard had three saves. St. Joseph’s goalkeeper Joey Bush had five saves.

On Thursday, the Pointers visit Northwest at 7:30 p.m. and St. Joseph visits Portsmouth Clay at 5:30.
