Charles Thomas

Charles “Charlie” Edward Thomas, 65, of Russell, Ky., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.

Charles was born on Jan 9, 1948, in West Virginia to the late Orval and Minnie Swann Gibson.

Mr. Thomas retired from AK Steel where he worked as a shift supervisor for over 35 years. He was a member of Smith Lodge 775 F & AM, and a hunting club, “Buffalo Hunters.” He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Charles enjoyed hobbies such as officiating football for over 18 years for Little Leagues and high schools, hunting, sports and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Left behind to cherish his memory is a loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Sharon Fryer Thomas, of Russell, Ky.; one son, Brett (Mendy) Thomas, of Ironton; three sisters, Joyce Alysworth, Joline (Tom) Henniger, and Cathy (Steve) Smith; one niece, Susan (Jerry) Daniels; great-nephew Peyton, (Amanda Hickman) Martin; great-niece Eden (Spencer) McPeek; a great-great nephew Eligh McPeek;, four grandchildren, Brittney Thomas, Brycen “B.J.” Thomas Brae-Leigh Thomas and Braegan Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family that will miss him dearly.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carman Funeral Home-Flatwoods. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation for family and friends will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard Craig

Richard Lee Craig, 85, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Portsmouth native was born Aug. 4, 1928, the son of the late Jesse and Polly Kirk Craig.

Richard was a graduate of Portsmouth High School. He retired as general manager for Lawrence Federal Savings Bank after 31 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ironton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Murfin Craig; three brothers; and three sisters.

Richard is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Randy Malone, of Ironton; daughter, Nancy Craig, of Portsmouth; granddaughter, Stephanie and Scott Williams; great-grandchildren, Rilee Lewis, Delanee Lewis, Brenner Williams, Kyle Williams and Judge Williams; sister-in-law, Karen Bauer, of Grove City; and several nieces and nephews

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Maddy officiating. There will be no public visitation.
