SOUTH WEBSTER — Just when the Green Bobcats had their foot on the gas pedal, they went into cruise control.

The Bobcats opened up a 9-point lead in the first half and led by one at the break, but the South Webster Jeeps rallied in the second half for a 64-50 win on Tuesday.

“We got complacent and we relaxed,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton. “We can’t turn the ball over. We have to value each possession. We had poor shot selection at times. It was a game we should have won.”

The loss spoiled a 26-point scoring effort by Trent Marcum who also had 4 rebounds for the Bobcats (0-2). Clay Applegate added 9 points and 5 rebounds and Hunter Lewis had 6 points and 4 rebounds.

“We were looking to get the ball to Trent. He was hitting so we just kept feeding him,” said Blanton.

“Hunter came off the bench and hit two big free throws. He played well for a sophomore.”

Marcum had 10 points in the first quarter as Green took a 13-10 lead. He scored 11 more in the second quarter and the Bobcats led 27-26 at the half.

The Jeeps (1-1) outscored Green 21-5 in the third quarter — Marcum had all 5 points — and grabbed a 47-32 lead.

Marcum rolled his ankle early in the fourth quarter and did not return. Green still managed to outscore the Jeeps 18-17, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Alex Blevins had 11 points and Elijah Ruark 10 to lead the Jeeps (1-1).
