Hornets rout RV

BIDWELL — Now that’s a team scoring effort.

The Coal Grove Hornets had three players in double figures and 11 in the scoring column as they routed the River Valley Raiders 79-38 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Brandon Adkins had a game-high 21 points to lead the Hornets (5-3, 2-1). Conor Markins scored 16 and Jonathon Joseph came off the bench to add 10 points.

Tyler Twyman scored 14 for River Valley.

Coal Grove jumped in front 18-4 in the first quarter and never looked back. Adkins scored 6 points while Joe Akers and Markins had 4 each.

Adkins pumped in 11 points in the second quarter as six different players scored and the Hornets cruised to a 44-15 halftime cushion.

Markins had 5 points in the third quarter while Sean Paulus, Adkins and Akers scored 4 each and the Hornets outscored the Raiders 19-5 to build an insurmountable 63-20 lead.

River Valley got all 5 of its points in the quarter from the foul line. The Raiders were 19-of-24 from the line overall.

Isaiah Gunther, D.J. Miller and Markins all made 3-pointers for the Hornets in the fourth quarter. Twyman had 8 points and John Qualls 5 for River Valley.
