WESTWOOD, Ky. — Making free throws is always important in a basketball game.

Just ask the South Point Pointers and Fairview Eagles.

The Pointers were just 2-of-9 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. That set the stage for Antwan Washington who went to the foul line with four seconds left and hit both free throws to give the Eagles the win a 54-53 win Saturday.

“We missed some free throws that could have put the game away,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

“Give their kid credit for hitting his free throws. We even called a time out and tried to ice him.”

South Point was led by Brandon Barnes who had 20 points and four steals. John Johnson finished with 13 points and three assists, Eli Ketron raked in 16 rebounds and Marquis Foley had 10.

Andrew Carroll and Washington scored 15 each for the Eagles (2-9).

Barnes scored 11 points in the first half and the game was tied 26-26 at the half.

Ketron had all nine of his points in the third quarter as the Pointers went up 42-41 and set up the wild finish.
