CHESAPEAKE — Going big was big for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

Turning to their inside duo of Jordan porter and Kaylee Curry, Chesapeake broke open a close game in the third quarter and beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 65-39 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Lady Panthers led 28-23 at the half, but Porter and Curry combined for 18 points in the third quarter as they outscored Coal Grove 23-9 to build a 51-32 cushion.

“We played pretty well. I don’t have any complaints,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball. “We had the size down low, we relaxed and went right at them in the third quarter.”

Porter finished with 26 points and six rebounds for the Lady Panthers (8-5, 3-2). Curry had 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steal. Taylor Martin added four assists.

“Porter had a good game and Kaylee had a complete game. (Curry) scored, passed and rebounded well. I’m excited to see her continue to do that on a regular basis,” said Ball.

Jacy Jones scored 12 points to lead Coal Grove (4-10, 1-3).

Chesapeake led 159 after the first quarter. Porter scored seven and Curry six in the second quarter.

Porter got 11 points and Sydney Hall had all seven of her points in the third quarter.

Curry and Porter scored six points each in the fourth quarter before Ball emptied his bench.
