Lady Vikings roll past NB

NEW BOSTON — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings know what season it is. Hunt-ing season.

Kalli Hunt racked up career highs with 27 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings to a 67-42 rout of the New Boston Lady Tigers in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.

“I thought we did a great job on the offensive end tonight,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker. “We’ve worked hard lately on improving our offensive output from the last two years and it’s paying off.”

Hannah Maynard had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Lady Vikings. Breanna Brumfield scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting including 2-of-3 from behind the arc.

Symmes Valley (5-8, 4-5) was 4-of-8 from the 3-point line as a team.

Kiersten McGraw scored 26 points for New Boston as she reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark.

Symmes Valley took a 16-12 lead in the first quarter as Hunt scored six points. McGraw and Ciji Thompson had five points each for the Lady Tigers.

Hunt had seven more points an Maynard scored five as the Lady Vikings extended the lead to 32-20 at the half.

Hunt and Maynard went back to work on the offensive end in the third quarter. Hunt scored eight points and Maynard five as Symmes Valley built a 52-33 lead.

McGraw scored 11 points in the quarter for New Boston.

The Lady Vikings outscored New Boston 15-9 in the fourth quarter as Hunt had six more points and Meranda Hayes scored four.

“We didn’t play great defensively, but we played well in spots and certain situations,” said Walker. “We did a great job on the glass tonight against a wonderful rebounder in Kiersten McGraw.”

Symmes Valley visits Rock Hill on Monday.
