PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons were in a skid. Tyler Campbell and Luke Phillips applied the brakes.

Campbell and Phillips turned in strong performances that helped the Dragons end a six-game losing streak and beat the Chesapeake Panthers 48-44 in a key Ohio Valley Conference game Friday.

Campbell played well defensively and keeping the Panthers off the offensive boards. Phillips finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

“Defensively we just fought. We played well fundamentally and tried not to force the issue. And we were patient on offense. We stayed in the flow and took what they gave us,” said Dragons’ coach Nathan Speed.

“Tyler Campbell played well and Luke Phillips played a great game offensively and defensively.”

Evan Maddox scored 22 points to go with five rebounds as Fairland improved to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the OVC. Nathan Campbell had 10 rebounds and three assists.

Chesapeake (10-4, 3-2) was led by Andrew Saunders with 15 points and seven rebounds. Gage Rhoades scored 13 points and Caleb Heffner grabbed six rebounds.

Maddox scored 10 points in the first quarter as Fairland took a 17-11 lead.

Chesapeake cut the spread to 28-22 at the half, but the Dragons limited the Panthers to six points in the third quarter to open up a 38-28 lead.
