PROCTORVILLE — A big shot led to a big win.

Taylor Perry hit an 18-footer with 20 seconds left to lift the Fairland Dragons over the Ashland Kittens 45-44 in overtime on Saturday.

“We needed a marquee win and that was one for us,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“Both teams slowed it down. It seemed like every possession lasted 45 seconds. Ashland has a lot of talent on that team. We wanted to keep them out of the lane and we did.”

Chandler Fulks scored 14 points and Terra Stapleton had 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Dragons (10-3). Kelsey Riley had seven rebounds.

Alex Young hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Ashland (8-4). Shelby Gransberry scored 12 and Alexis Robinson had 10 points.

Haley Sue Foutch got all six of her points in the first quarter as Ashland took a 13-10 lead. Fulks scored five for Fairland.

The Lady Dragons held Ashland to just five points in the second quarter and Caitlin Stone hit a pair of 3-pointers as Fairland took a 25-18 halftime lead.

“We see (Stone) do it in practice every day, so we’re not surprised when she knocks down shots,” said Buchanan.

Fairland led 34-32 after three quarters and the game was tied 40-40 at the end of regulation.

That set up Perry’s winning shot.

The Lady Dragons host Spring Valley, W.Va., on Monday.
