PROCTORVILLE — Now, that’s a comeback.

Playing the No. 4-ranked Class 3-A teams in West Virginia, the Fairland Lady Dragons rallied from a 20-point deficit to stun the Spring Valley Lady Timberwolves 72-66 on Monday.

Fairland finished the game with an 18-2 run as Caitlin Stone scored all 11 of her points.

Terra Stapleton scored eight in the fourth and Taylor Perry got six more as Fairland outscored Spring Valley 27-10 in the quarter.

“We beat Ashland Saturday and Spring Valley tonight. That’s two great, great wins,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“We were down 20 and our girls just fought back and just won the game. We just didn’t shoot well the first two, two and a half quarters.”

Maddie Morris had eight points in the first quarter as Spring Valley jumped out to a 25-12 lead. Stapleton had six points for Fairland.

The Lady Dragons managed to cut the deficit to 35-25 at the half.

After leading by 20 points early in the third quarter, Spring Valley was up 56-45 at the end quarter as Sarah Kelly scored 10 points. Kelsey Riley scored 10 points in the quarter for Fairland.

Stone scored with less than four minutes, then got a steal and converted a 3-point play to get Fairland within 64-61 with 3:15 left.

“Everyone was celebrating the score and Caitlin just stayed focused on what was going on in front of her,” said Buchanan.

Stapleton scored to put Fairland up 66-64 and Perry scored six points including 4-of-4 at the foul line over the final 55 seconds.
