PEDRO — It’s the little things that mean a lot. Just ask the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

Coach Brandon Walker said the Lady Vikings ability to do the little things proved to be the difference as they held off the Rock Hill Redwomen 57-51 on Monday.

“I’m proud of the little things we’re doing. We took charges, dove for loose balls and played great defense,” said Walker.

“Rock Hill is deadly form behind the arc. We took advantage of our size with (Kalli) Hunt and we played composed.”

Hunt had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Vikings (6-8). Hannah Maynard had her first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Breanna Brumfield added 10 points.

Kasey Russell and Samantha Dillon scored 13 points each for the Redwomen (3-12). Anna Darby had 10 points.

“They just out-hustled us. We didn’t put four quarters together. We battled back in the fourth quarter, but it was too late,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“Dillon did a good job. She led us in rebounds. Madison (Damron) played her best defensive game. We just got beat up and down the floor the first half.”

Maynard had seven points and Brumfield four more as the Lady Vikings took a 15-11 first quarter lead.

Six different players scored two points in the second quarter for Symmes Valley and it was 27-23 at the half. Russell scored six points.

Hunt and Maynard scored five points in the third quarter to offset six by Darby as the Lady Vikings extended the lead to 43-36.

Hunt had six points in the fourth quarter to help offset five points each by Dillon and Russell.

“Rock Hill always play hard against us. It’s a big game for both of us. It never matters what the records are,” said Walker.
