COAL GROVE — It was fast and furious for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets.

The Lady Hornets got off to a fast start and held on to edge the Rose Hill Lady Royals 58-57 on Tuesday.

“Both teams started fast and hot, especially Jones,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach. “We had two starters get in foul trouble and got out of rhythm early.

“Their three scorers did a good job knocking down their shots. They got in foul trouble late and we were able to capitalize and get a win.”

Leah Crum scored 20 points and Jacy Jones had 18 points for the Lady Hornets. The duo combined for eight 3-pointers.

Summer Willis hauled down 15 rebounds for Coal Grove (7-10).

“Willis was a monster on the boards,” said Roach.

Paige Brammer scored 19 points. Madison Crum had 17 and Myriah Porter 15 to lead Rose Hill (3-12).

Jones drained three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove took an 18-16 lead. Madison Crum hit a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter for Rose Hill.

Porter and Brammer combined for all 13 of Rose Hill’s points in the second quarter as the Lady Royals came back to tie the game at the half, 29-29.

Leah Crum had five points as she and Jones each hit 3-pointers and Coal Grove took a 43-39. Madison Crum had five points for the Royals.

Leah Crum had 10 points in the fourth quarter — she hit two triples — to help keep Coal Grove ahead.

Brammer and Porter were each 4-of-4 at the foul line and Crum hit two more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
