What is potential for land?Published 12:00am Sunday, February 2, 2014
At a recent Ironton City Council meeting, council members had varying thoughts on turning the former Ironton Iron property over to the Lawrence County Port Authority.
However, while economic development would be beneficial for the city, it is important to ensure that all information is obtained prior to taking the vote to move forward with the measure.
This means determining what the exact potential is for development of the property. Additionally, council members need to make certain the development will benefit both the city and residents.
While we have no doubt that the Lawrence County Port Authority will develop the property into something viable, it is important for city leaders to have those particulars as well.
We encourage all city residents to attend council meetings and gather information regarding these projects. It is the residents of the city of Ironton that could be the beneficiaries of this economic development, but it is your right to know all the information about what is going on in your community.
It should be a resident’s ultimate goal to obtain all the information possible about what is going on from elected leaders. Then, if you do not agree with the measures or the decisions, it is your responsibility to present your opinion in a civil manner to those who have been entrusted to hold these offices.
