CHILLICOTHE — The Zane Trace Lady Pioneers may have been one of the top teams in the SVAC, but that didn’t faze the Rock Hill Redwomen.

Rock Hill took the Lady Pioneers to the limit before losing 44-42 on Saturday.

“I was proud of their effort. The kids played hard and to the last second,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

Kasey Russell had 13 points and Madison Damron scored 11 including three 3-pointers to lead the Redwomen (3-13). Sarah Travis and Anna Darby added eight points each.

Kylan Strausbaugh scored 19 and Jillian Pontius 10 for Zane Trace (11-7).

Russell scored five points and Damron hit a trey and the Redwomen trailed just 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Pioneers went up 23-20 at the half, but Damron’s 3-pointer was the difference in the third quarter as Rock Hill tied the game at 31.

Darby scored four points in the fourth quarter, but Katie Unger scored five points as Zane Trace escaped with the win.

“Kasey and Madison were steady with the points, Sarah Travis did a good job with her perimeter shots, and Darby did a good job on the boards. All the girls played well,” said coach Damron.
