Raymond Evans

Raymond Roth Evans, 86, of Pedro, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Pedro native was born Jan. 18, 1928, the son of the late Ersel and Ruby Mae Roth Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Chin Evans, who passed away Oct. 21, 2008.

Mr. Evans was a graduate of Decatur High School, he was a purchasing agent for Lone Star Industries for 38 years and was a Navy veteran from World War II, where he received a Victory Medal. He was a member of Decatur Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Ivan Dale Evans; brother and sister-in-law the Rev. Calvin and Doris Evans; and two brothers-in-law, William Isom Gibson and Curtis Rogers.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Robert) Katulski, of Canton, Mich.; Coleen (Wesley) Dunagan, of Columbia, S.C.; three sons, Danny (Beth) Evans, of Ironton; Gregory (Susie) Evans, of South Point; and Eric (Doris) Evans, of Milford, Mich.; a brother, Austin (Patty) Evans, of Pedro; three sisters, Loretta Rogers and Joanne Gibson, of Ironton; and Eloise (Billy Joe) Phillips, of Pedro; seven grandchildren, Mark (Julie) Katulski, Michael Katulski, Heidi (Jay) Blaisdell, Sara Kerecman, Aaron (Alexandra) Evans, Jordan Evans and Stephanie (Jarrod) Slusher; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Katulski, Kemper Kerecman, Nathan Evans and Jacob Lester; three step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Decatur Missionary Baptist Church in Pedro with the Rev. Brian Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Furnace Cemetery. Richard Sharp

Richard Sharp, age 66, of Wurtland, Ky., died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was the husband of Lori Schroeder Sharp. He was born March 7, 1947, to the late Alpha Junior Sharp and Mary Lou Rowe Sharp Akers.

He was an Army veteran and a member of the VFW Post 8850. He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his wife and children, Richard Franklin (Missy) Sharp, of Tomah, Wis.; James Michael Sharp, of Rock Camp; Kimberly Sharp, of South Point; Misty (Shawn) Wilson, of Coal Grove; Brooke Terrill (Sparkle) Sharp, of Wurtland; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Glen (Patty) Sharp and Frank Sharp, both of Ironton; Jimmy (Melissa) Akers, of South Point; sister Vicki Akers Roberts, of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at a later date in the veterans section at Woodland Cemetery.

 

 

Shurlene Bowman

Shurlene Hope Bowman, 79, of Crown City, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville by pastor Jerry Galloway. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. Larry Harris

Larry James Harris, 67, of Delaware, formerly of Greenup County, Ky., died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at his residence. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., with Paul Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at Whitt Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Rodman-Snyder Funeral Center in Delaware and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods.

 

 

Robert Baker

Robert M. Baker, 72, of South Point, died Friday Feb. 7, 2014, at home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Shelburn Childers

Lt. Col. Shelburn Ray Childers, 69, of Ashland, Ky., husband of Brenda Lemaster Childers, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Military funeral honors will be 1 p.m. Monday by Chaplain John Trainor, and the U.S. Air Force Detail at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast. Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Funeral Home.

 

 

Carmen Crow

Carmen Crow, 88, of Charleston, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. today. Burial will be at Tyler Mountain Memory Garden in Cross Lanes, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY, 41101 or a local Hospice organization.
