Ohio tops Redhawks; Herd falls

ATHENS (AP) — Nick Kellogg pumped in 27 points and Travis Wilkins added 23, both career highs, to lead Ohio to an 82-75 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Trailing 47-32 at the break, Ohio (17-6, 7-3 Mid-American Conference) rallied huge in the second half with a 22-5 run that included a trio of Wilkins 3-pointers. The lead went back and forth before the Bobcats took control with back-to-back 3-pointers from Kellogg to take a 68-65 lead they would pad and protect over the final 3 minutes.

Maurice Ndour contributed 14 points and eight rebounds for the Bobcats, who hit 29 of 55 from field (53 percent) and were 11 of 29 from 3-point range.

Miami (9-12, 5-5) hit 25 of 53 overall but was held to just 12.5 percent shooting in the second half while being outscored 50-28.

Will Felder and Bill Edwards led the Redhawks with 19 points each.

USM 60, Marshall 57

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Neil Watson drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left to play and Aaron Brown tacked on a pair of free throws a second later, allowing Southern Mississippi to snatch a 60-57 victory away from upset-minded Marshall Friday Night.

Watson’s trey gave the Golden Eagles their only lead of the second half and only their second lead of the game — a brief, 3-2 first-half lead.

Marshall was bidding for its first win in seven starts in Hattiesburg. The victory was the seventh straight for Southern Miss, which remains tied with UTEP atop the Conference USA standings, each with just one loss.

Brown finished with 13 points and Michael Craig added another 12 to lead the Golden Eagles (20-3, 7-1), with Jerrold Brooks and Neil Watson each contributing 10.

Ryan Taylor paced Marshall (8-16, 22-7) with 17 points, with Kareem Canty adding another 11 and Chris Thomas 10.
