Lady Vikings fall to No. 1 Eastern in sectional finals

ROCKSPRINGS — So that’s why they’re ranked No. 1 in the poll and listed as one of the favorites to win the Division IV state championship.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got a first-hand look as the Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles juggernaut Thursday as they fell 78-38 in the sectional finals.

Jordan Parker scored 16 points and Dayton-bound Jenna Burdette had 15 points — 12 in the first half — for the Lady Eagles (22-1). Burdette added six rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

Also in double figures for Eastern were Erin Swatzel with 13 and Hannah Barringer with 10.

Breanna Brumfield scored 11 and Meranda Hayes had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Vikings (9-11).

Parker hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 12 points while Burdette had eight points in the first quarter and Eastern bolted to a 30-8 lead.

Brumfield cored five points for the Lady Vikings including a trey.

Five different players scored in the second quarter as Eastern extended the lead to 46-16 at the half.

The Lady Eagles got six points from Swartzel in the third quarter as six different players scored and the lead ballooned to 66-23.

Brumfield and Hayes had four points each in the fourth quarter as the Lady Vikings outscored Eastern 15-13. Lindsay Hupp came off the bench to score seven points for the Lady Eagles.

Symmes Valley plays at Sciotoville East on Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
